Come back, George Dixon

For the fainthearted . . .

Dixon of Dock Green is back on BBC Radio 4.

I used to love the television series when I was young. Jack Warner as George Dixon would appear on camera in his London bobby’s uniform and salute the audience with his warm ‘Ev’ning all’, then introduce the story for that episode; at the end there would be a few words of wisdom and a goodbye from Dock Green for another week.

Vanity of vanities

For the fainthearted . . .

The news this morning reported that the bill for Taoiseach’s make up since the General Election in May 2002 is more than €70,000 – or over €550 per week. This was an astonishing piece of information!

Empty barrels

For the fainthearted . . .

Today’s Irish Times says that Dublin is only the thirteenth most expensive city in the world; Oslo is top of the league.

They were sat on the big padded seats in the middle of the shops frantically going through a pile of travel books they had taken from the shelf. They gave no indication of having any intention of buying anything …
