  1. The smell of burning peat is certainly a wonderful aroma, thank-you Ian for that piece you transported me back over to Ireland for a while there too.

  2. Grannymar, Believe it or not, there are peat briquettes that are marketed as ‘smokeless’. We lived in the Victorian house that was the Rectory from 1876 to 1985 for a year between 2006 and 2007 and lit fires to try to keep warm. On top of the central heating, we could burn two bales in an evening.
