The strangeness of Mrs Jones — 4 Comments

  1. K-tel did make all sorts of things, have a look on youtube under K-tel commmercials, its hilarious………I see The Tymes on the record sleeve, would they be singing about ‘Miss Grace’ ? I think the intention with Miss Grace was to do more than hold Mrs Jones hand…!!!! …….

  2. An odd song is right.
I like Jackie Leven’s version of it – tacked on to the end of one of his performances of The Kings of Infinite Space – he remarks on the afternoon melancholy feel of it – a bit like the theme music for Colombo – and also notices the oddness of the furtive meetings – “we meet every day in the same cafe” – bit rubbish at the auld surreptiousness aren’t they. haven’t they got a multistorey carpark handy?

  3. Call me old fashioned but I think it’s about love. The lyrics say something about both of them having other commitments or responsibilities. They meet, they talk, they hold hands.

‘Okay, life’s a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that’s the only chance anyone’s got for real happiness ‘ (Breakfast at Tiffany’s). I don’t believe the lyrics of the song say that they are actually going to run off with each other -in fact quite the contrary.
