Railway reverie — 2 Comments

  1. I remember a steam loco in the yard of the station up in Ennis. It was a small thing, not the same as the Galway to Clifton or Lisdoonvarna, or those of the Indian hill railways. But something in between then and the big ones you see in the England on the Settle-Carlisle Line crossing that viaduct. I always thought it was a pity it wasn’t running as a sort of Irish Orient Express esp now since you can kinda do a circuit south and to Galway with forays to Cork and Killarney.
Might the smell be off a steam traction engine. They wheel those out for the summer and I think there’s a festival of sorts up that-a-ways.
    Ahh yes, here, http://www.irishsteam.ie/

  2. You could be right that it was someone getting fired up for the steam rally. I hadn’t thought of its imminent approach.
