  1. I’d took the Aldi and Lidl populating their stores with Christmas stuff from September to be an exhibition of social conscience. Something that allowed people to buy weekly and not become overwhelmed and go into debt by doing things the way we usually do things. But it seems not, and is merely serendipitous. In that the Christmas period that’s important in Germany is Advent. And while that has is important here too, we place far more weight between Christmas day and Little Christmas.
    On Krampus. You have to wonder if it’s less native to the areas than something that came with the legions of the Roman empire. And perhaps a nod to Dionysus and Mithra.
