  1. Ahhhh no. And while is sticks in my craw a little that we have the descendents of those who watched their neighbours starve sing it as if they had real and personal connection. For it wasn’t only the Russell government, but Irish Catholic bishops that delivered the ‘God visited’ message. The very same people who formed the O’Connell mass meetings and with it the emancipation were the very same less than 20 years later were seen as surplus to requirements.

  2. I’m reading Tim Pat Coogan’s The Famine Plot at the moment. It is a piece of polemic, but his documentary evidence is substantial.
