VE Day was not the end — 1 Comment

  1. In a way it was remarkable that more weren’t killed. And quite surprising how rapidly law was reinstated.
All the killings came within the space between the army and the front crossing and the law elements coming in behind. A few weeks to a few months. But within, a very ugly civil terror was visited on those who, or were suspected to have anything to do with the invader. In France girls who stepped out with Germans had their hair shaved and had their ‘error’ remembered until they died. This regardless of the State level shift in the 50s. And the smaller the place the worse they had it. Many couldn’t handle it and killer themselves. Others moved to the cities, but some stubborn ones remained and tried to face it out.
