Remembering those who also remember — 3 Comments

  1. Ian,

I’m fascinated to hear about “Operation Shamrock”.

Ireland has a good record when it comes to looking after children less fortunate than our own – Chernobyl Children’s Trust being a classic example.

We do indeed have a lot to be thankful to Germany for since joining the EU. I’m sorry we didn’t get to emulate their universal health service as well 🙁

  2. Ireland does have a good record for humanitarian aid, Steph. I was really amazed when I researched Operation Shamrock for my novel that more people don’t remember the initiative and praise the people who undertook it. It is such a commendable part of Irish history.

  3. I was the boy in”Dianne Ascroft’s novel, “Hitler and Mars Bars”.I lived in the Goldschmidt Home, Bredenscheid, Essen in 1944-till coming to Glencree Ireland, in 1945. I am writing my Memoir called-War and its Orphan-A lost Child. I came to Chester England in 1955
