I could have done a lot with two and six — 4 Comments

  1. I could have gone to Long Sutton fair on the village green and had a ride on the dodgems and on the roundabout; I could have tried to win a coconut; I could have bought a candy floss and a toffee apple; and still had a sixpence and a threepenny bit in my pocket to wander around looking at other things.

My Grandad needed four half crowns to pay for one of his children to see the doctor in the 1930s, and he was only earning thirty shillings a week.

  2. Or Corgi Toys no 61 Four Furrow Plough @ 2s 3d and had thruppence left over!!!!!!I can remember the savings books too.

  3. I wonder if you had spent the money that way, would the memories have lingered?

The National Savings book stayed with you for life and gave ALL of us food for thought.
