  1. Good post, Ian! If there is anything good to come out of the recession, it will be that people try a little harder to think about what really matters to them.

  2. During World War II the British army had a section called the Army Bureau of Current Affairs -Churchill hated it. It published booklets and held lectures and encouraged discussion of a whole range of issues – and probably contributed to the huge change in British society post-1945.

    Sometimes, I think a similarly daring consultative process should take place. Governments should have the courage to say, ‘we are at a watershed, where do you think we should go from here?
